Dear Life,
Can you hear me?
If you’re busy, I understand,
But I just have a little time now.
So I was hopin’ you could maybe hear me today.
Just a couple loose ends to tidy up,
If you can help.
I done a few bad things,
Won’t have time to make them right, now,
So I thought maybe you could lend me a hand.
Guess I haven’t asked for much before.
Don’t think that I have.
Don’t know why I did what I did,
Hurt some fine people.
Didn’t seem to care at the time,
Guess I do now, though.
Can you tell them, somehow, that I’m sorry?
Don’t even know if you’re real, Life.
Maybe you only live in peoples’ heads.
But I can’t think of one other friend.
Never needed any, you know?
‘till now, maybe.
So it comes down to this, ay?
Askin’ for help.
Never thought I‘d do that,
Pretty stubborn, you know.
But . . . I guess you know.
Preacher came by today,
Told him to go to hell. (heh, heh)
Same place I’m headed, right?
Don’t care much about that though,
Anymore.
Can’t even remember why I was so mad
All the time.
But I was.
Better not get in my way!
But not anymore.
You’re not in my way, now.
I tried my best,
But life; you know, it’s short and furious for some.
And now . . . well,
The fury’s gone.
It’s quiet, now.
So when I walk out of my cell later,
And down that long hall,
I’ll be brave.
I promise, Life.
Remember the little girl,
That once was me.
The little girl,
That got so lost in life.
And that’s about it, Life.
Thanks.
Oh, Just one more thing —
Maybe you can cut me a break . . . ay?
